The Jes Foord Foundation has coordinated various projects in an effort to EDUCATE, create AWARENESS and change attitudes through advocacy and other initiatives. It is, however, their aim to address the problem itself: the prevalence of rape in our society. Some of these initiatives include their Handbag Project which has assisted many rape victims.
54450, The number of handbags we have packed and delivered to Thuthuzela Centres, Childline, Rape Crisis Centres and NPA Court’s across SA
400, The number of rape comfort bags we deliver every single month, which sadly isn’t even sufficient for the number of survivors
About The Jes Foord Foundation
In 2008, Jes Foord was gang-raped, a turning point leading her to found The Jes Foord Foundation (JFF). This organisation, born from her traumatic experience, aims to transform victims into survivors through support and education. Jes’s remarkable resilience has inspired many, turning a personal tragedy into a crusade for change.
Through JFF, she offers motivational talks and aims to change societal perceptions of rape, emphasizing recovery and empowerment. Her work highlights the importance of dignity and self-esteem for survivors, supported by community donations.

The Jes Foord Foundation is a non-profit, PBO (public benefit organisation) and relies solely on individual and corporate donations to keep their counselling and care initiatives running, such as:
- Free Trauma Counselling
This programme offers no-cost psychological support to rape survivors, helping them navigate the emotional aftermath of their trauma. Qualified counsellors provide a safe space for healing and recovery, emphasising confidentiality and empathy.
- Awareness Talks
Through engaging discussions, this initiative educates communities about the realities and impacts of sexual violence. Speakers share insights on prevention, support for survivors, and the importance of shifting societal attitudes towards rape. - The Handbag Project
A unique initiative where donated handbags filled with personal care items are given to rape survivors. This gesture aims to restore a sense of dignity and care at a critical moment, symbolising community support and solidarity.
- Actively Against Initiative
This programme mobilises individuals and communities to take a stand against sexual violence through active participation and advocacy. It encourages public commitment to creating safer environments and supporting survivors.
- Young Men’s Mentorship Program
Focused on young males, this mentorship scheme aims to educate and inspire positive masculinity, respect, and equality. Mentors guide participants in understanding their role in preventing sexual violence and promoting healthy relationships. - Learner Awareness Impact Program
Targeted at school-aged children, this programme raises awareness about consent, boundaries, and respect through interactive sessions. It aims to instil an early understanding of personal rights and the importance of mutual respect in relationships.
